Judi Iranyi was born in Hungary at the close of World War II. Later she emigrated to Venezuela, where she finished high school. Then she moved to Germany where she lived for four years before moving to San Francisco. She also lived in Trinidad, Barbedos, and Japan. She traveled extensively in Asia, Africa, Middle East, Central and South America, and Europe.

Ms. Iranyi became interested in photography in the sixties. She studied photography and art at City College of San Francisco, San Francisco State University, U.C. Berkeley, and Museum Studies at John F. Kennedy University. However, she worked as a licensed clinical social worker until her retirement.

Now that she is retired, Ms. Iranyi is dedicating her time to her photography. She has been published and has been in two solo exhibitions and numerous group shows. Her book, Bay Are Families, was one of the ten jury selections mentioned in the exhibit Cover to Cover at San Francisco Cameraworks (2013) and she won second prize in Portraiture in the Professional Women Photographers 36 Anniversary International Women’s Competition (2014). She has self-published two monographs Arg-e-Bam about the ancient citadel in Iran, and Remembering Michael, a tribute to her son who died of AIDS in 1984. Because of family health reasons, I now spend a lot of time in my home. This has given me time to experiment with different techniques, including montages and collages.

This image is a montage of related images. It is part of a new project where I use old and new images both analogue and digital to create composite portraits. I am interested in the memories, connections, family and home. I hope to create a special mood with the juxtaposition of multiple images.
