Verdant is an abstract form of a water drop. The water drop form is also a metaphor for life and the environment and represents our physical and spiritual dependence on water. California, where I reside, suffered from severe drought for the past several years. I was inspired by the striking blue sky with breath-taking clouds I saw after aÌýrainstormÌýin early spring. I used the water drop form as a canvas to depict the sky with clouds and the verdant rolling hills. Without water, the environment depicted in this piece could not exist. This piece is a celebration of our environment and a reminder ofÌýthe importance water plays in our lives.

I began my journey as an artist and designer more than 30 years ago when I designed and made kimonos in Kyoto, Japan.ÌýAfter moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1989, I explored different mediums and career paths including floral design, interior design, and graphic design before finally finding my calling in clay. Each area of design that I have explored has helped me to hone the discipline and skills that I now use to create artworks in clay. I work in my private studio in theÌýBerkeley Potters Guild, Berkeley, California.
